“A Wholesale Surrender of Praise”

Romans 15:9b

As it is written: "Therefore I will praise you among the Gentiles; I will sing hymns to your name."

Thoughts for Today:

Have you ever noticed how certain hymns we sing, have a deeply spiritual and emotional effect upon us personally? Some songs always choke me up. "Rescue" by Newsong is one of those. The chorus goes like this:

"I need You Jesus to come to my rescue
Where else can I go?
There's no other Name by which I am saved
Capture me with grace
I will follow You."

If you are sitting anywhere near me in church, and the praise band plays this song, you will have to endure watching me stand, with my hands lifted in praise while I belt out the words at the top of my lungs. I apologize in advance. But I'm not singing for your benefit -- I'm singing to God -- just like our passage today reflects. It's what God wants of us, a wholesale surrender of praise to Him. Nothing held back.

Questions to Ponder:

Some of us have difficulty letting ourselves go in praise to the Lord. If you don't feel comfortable doing so in public (church), then don't. But do so somewhere -- whether it's in your car, in the shower, or walking on the beach. It doesn't matter where, just do it. God wants us to worship Him. And it is so good for us. Are you feeling a little down right now? Do you need your spirits lifted? Join me in a chorus of "Rescue". I hope you won't be offended when I sing a little off key!
